Niman Ranch Holiday Ham

By: Taylor Silva; Chill Buyer

Hello All!

The Holidays have always been one of my favorite times of the year, filled with fun snowy activities, family and friendly get-togethers, and an abundance of my favorite thing, food! I love to cook and bake (I really don’t even mind the clean-up), and this year I am going to be serving a Niman Ranch Uncured Spiral Ham!

We have been selling these hams for a few years now and they are delightful! The hams are brined in a salt-and-maple sugar solution that closes in the natural flavor, and then are slowly smoked over apple wood chips for up to 12 hours. Niman Ranch hogs are raised on small, family farms throughout the mid-west and mid-Atlantic. They are fed a 100% vegetarian feed and never treated with antibiotics or hormones.

Now comes the biggest question surrounding Niman Ranch Hams: Does Niman Ranch use Genetically Modified (GMO) feeds? The answer straight from the Niman Ranch is:

“Unfortunately the use of GMOs is now prevalent in the U.S. Cross-contamination of non-GMO fields due to wind drift from genetically modified crops does sometimes occur. While we make every effort to keep GMO material out of our feeds, we cannot guarantee that our feeds are 100% free of GMOs.”
